My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a great book that I read at a very quick pace for me. It differs so much for the Disney movie so much that I was happily surprised to actually get the full story and why it was such a popular book. I loved the part where Burroughs described Tarzan as seeing a bunch of little bugs when he was looking at written English for the first time. I also enjoyed the part where a French officer teaches Tarzan to speak French even though Tarzan is all ready proficient in reading English and the French realized later that it wasn't the easiest course of action to learn a language. The ending is anything but "Happily Ever After" but I believe this first book is part of a large series of Tarzan books. Burroughs was probably just trying to sell more books by leaving the reader hanging for the conclusion. It is still an excellent book if you only read the first in the series.
